A Journey of Fat Loss and Muscle Gain at CrossFit FIG

The Beginning of Change:

Kayla joined CrossFit FIG on December 1, 2023, seeking a new path to wellness. Frustrated with constant fatigue, illness, and the lack of results from her elliptical workouts, she knew she needed a change. The gym offered a fresh start to become the best version of herself. Since starting her journey, Kayla has achieved a 5% reduction in body fat loss and gained 5 pounds of muscle.


Struggles Before CrossFit:

Before finding CrossFit Fig, Kayla battled persistent tiredness and sickness, compounded by poor dietary habits that included processed foods and sugar-laden meals. Her physical weakness was a constant reminder of her need for change. Mentally, she struggled with anxiety and depression, and the workouts she did at home didn’t provide the relief she sought. CrossFit became her sanctuary, a place where she could escape and recharge.


Proud Milestones:

One of Kayla’s proudest moments was completing the Open, just two months after joining CrossFit. The encouragement from her instructors and her brother-in-law, Jason, gave her the confidence to participate, despite her initial fears. Being named “athlete of the week” for week one was a significant achievement, especially for someone who had often felt overlooked in physical activities growing up.


Transformation Beyond the Gym:

Kayla’s journey at CrossFit Fig has brought profound changes to her lifestyle. She now enjoys more energy, has reduced her chiropractor visits, and has improved her eating habits. Her newfound strength was particularly noticeable during a recent trip, where lifting luggage was no longer a struggle. Despite ongoing medical challenges, CrossFit provides her with a much-needed mental and emotional lift, helping her feel accomplished and positive throughout her day.


Favorite Movements:

Kayla has a particular fondness for pull-ups and toes-to-bar, setting goals to improve her skills in these areas. The rig has become her favorite place, and each small victory, like progressing from banded pull-ups to more advanced techniques, brings her joy.


Advice for Newcomers:

Kayla encourages those new to CrossFit to dive in, assuring them that workouts can be tailored to any fitness level. She emphasizes the welcoming nature of the CrossFit Fig community, making it an ideal place for anyone looking to grow physically and mentally.


A Fun Fact:

Kayla was born in Okinawa, Japan, and has a deep pride in her Japanese heritage, reflected in her tattoos. She is self-taught in Japanese and is making steady progress, even tackling the challenging kanji script.
