Finding CrossFit Fig:
Six years ago, Rachel and her husband were moving back to Kansas City. Searching for a new CrossFit gym, they rented a townhouse across the street from CrossFit Fig. Little did they know, that short walk across the street would lead them to a place that felt like home. The supportive community and amazing atmosphere made them fall in love with the gym instantly, and Rachel knew this was the right place to continue her fitness journey.
The Early Days:
Rachel had been doing CrossFit for a year before joining Fig, but she was still working on building confidence with new skills. She had no prior experience with barbell lifting, and as an introvert, she preferred attending classes with her husband or in smaller groups.
A Community Like No Other:
What Rachel found at CrossFit Fig was more than just a gym, it was a second family. Over the years, she’s formed close connections with her fellow members, finding support not just for herself but for her two young boys as well. The 6:30 pm class is her favorite time of the day, where she gets to unwind after work and share in her friends’ successes.
A Milestone to Remember:
One of the most memorable moments in Rachel’s journey was getting her bar muscle-ups back after having her second child. That moment wasn’t just about physical strength, it was about rediscovering her confidence. It was a powerful reminder that the version of herself as a mother is just as capable, and maybe even stronger, than before.
Transforming Her Outlook:
Rachel’s relationship with fitness has completely transformed since joining CrossFit Fig. Before, she struggled to stay motivated, constantly starting and stopping workout plans. But now, the group class environment holds her accountable, and she looks forward to every workout. When someone asks, “See you tomorrow?” she knows she has to show up.
Challenges Along the Way:
Pregnancy brought its own set of challenges for Rachel, especially her first pregnancy during the pandemic. But thanks to the incredible coaches at CrossFit Fig, she was able to stay active even when the gym was closed. With creative at-home workouts, Rachel navigated the difficulties of pregnancy while maintaining her fitness and mental well-being.
Favorite Movements:
Rachel’s favorite workout? Power cleans! She’s come a long way from struggling to carry a gallon of milk to confidently lifting heavier weights.
Advice for Newcomers:
Rachel’s message for anyone starting their fitness journey is simple: don’t be afraid to fail. “You have to try unfamiliar things to grow,” she says. “Just show up, and you’ll never regret it.”
Fun Fact:
Rachel was a competitive cheerleader for 13 years, played soccer, and competed in tumbling and trampoline!
Rachel’s journey at CrossFit Fig is a testament to the power of community, consistency, and believing in yourself. Her story is a reminder that every phase of life brings strength in its own unique way.
